The vision of
a Bible Seminary was in the heart of Dr. Tissa Weerasingha since 1968. In
1973, however, after returning from
By 1981,
Calvary had grown considerably and the new facility of
The foundation
of CTS is the Great Commission, and although the primary focus is on training
Church planters, students are trained for other areas of ministry as
well. The first extension school was started in 1998, and today, there
are 11 extension schools. Currently, the enrolment stands at 245
representing 4 different denominations.
In 2002,
Calvary Theological Seminary moved into the newly built facility, with a larger
and well equipped library.
Calvary Theological Seminary
and its extension centers are 100% locally funded, and some of the equipment
used in the classrooms of the new facility were paid for by faith pledges made
by the current students.
